About the Owner
Deborah Crimes founded Lessons From Abroad, LLC in 2003. Deborah has a passion for two things:  (1) teaching children – she has taught and tutored children in various subjects for the past 18 years, mostly on a volunteer basis, and (2) language and culture — she studied Spanish in high school, college and abroad in Sevilla, Spain and wishes to learn more languages in the near future.  By combining these passions, Lessons From Abroad became a reality.

Deborah is very active in her community.  She serves on the Board of Directors of the Women Business Owners of Prince George’s County as a Membership Director and mentor.  Deborah serves on the Board of Directors for Perrywood Elementary School’s PTA as a Delegate and Volunteer Coordinator for the school.  She also has been a Junior Achievement (JA) volunteer for over 15 years.  Deborah is currently a JA volunteer at Beacon Heights Elementary School where she teaches third graders business economics with a focus on their community.  Deborah rounds out her volunteer work in her own Perrywood community as a member of the annual Perrywood Day committee.  She can be seen cooking, serving food or helping out in the children’s activity area.  Deborah is a volunteer, through and through!

Deborah has a Bachelors in Spanish and a Bachelors in International Business from the State University of New York and a Masters in Business Administration from Howard University. Prior to starting LFA, Deborah enjoyed a 15-year career in Contracts and Procurement and simultaneously dedicated her "free time" to working with children in various capacities as teacher, mentor, coach, tutor, and friend.
